What to Wear in Paris (Spring-Summer)

No doubt, Paris is best enjoyed in the Spring through Summer months. On average, the weather in Paris is a lot like the rest of Europe with average temps from 60°F to 70°F (16°C to 21°C). Spring is also the rainy season in Paris, so if you hate wet weather, you’ll probably want to go in the summer when it’s less rainy. With the Paris weather, comes appropriate clothing. Not only stylish outfits but functional for keeping warm, comfy and dry. Here are my suggestions of what to wear in Paris in the Spring thru Summer months. (bonus section for Fall and Winter too!)

What to wear in Paris

What to Wear in Paris (Summer)

Summer in Paris is about 70 degrees on average, so it never really gets hot. I was in Paris from late August to early September and I was good in jeans the whole time.

If you want to blend in, I suggest a simple knee-length sundress, a floaty dress, or a skirt. Cutoff denim shorts have become more of a norm, too. Sporting minimal black lace bras under semi-sheer blouses are kind of a thing in Paris rn.

What five things do all French women have in their wardrobe during the summer?

“The perfect pair of denim cut-offs, which are short but not too short. Then there’s a simple pair of tan sandals – nothing too fussy. Everyone owns a basket bag and a relaxed summer dress that can be worn day and night – French women don’t like to look overly done. A white silk shirt is good too, but it should be loose to keep cool.” -Morgane Sezalory, the founder of popular French label Sezane

What to Wear in Paris (Fall-Winter)

Fall, much like Spring is rainy and cool. Keeping up with the layered looks and adding a scarf, a little heavier jacket and headwear is essential. As the months move into winter, you’ll want to opt for boots and a heavy wool coat.

Always following the style code of the French, Fall and Winter is not too different than Spring and Summer. The colors are muted and tonal and silhouettes are sleek and flattering.

What to Wear in Paris (Spring)

Spring months in Paris is March, April, and May. As one of the two rainiest seasons in Paris, spring can have an average of 9 days per month of rainy weather. That means, it could rain the entire week you are there. So you can either embrace it or pick another time to go.

A cute raincoat and closed-toed ballet flats (my favorites are these Josef Seibel Pippa Black Ballet Flats). You can also wear ankle boots, are best to wear for the wet days. Stay away from fabric shoes as they may get wet and uncomfortable on your feet and socks.

Jeans are by far a wardrobe staple for most Parisians. So if you want to blend in, I always suggest going with classic styles.

A blazer can really dress up a simple tee. Most Parisian women stick to navy, black and neutral color. Keep the overall fit flattering and basic.

I like to think Coco Chanel had something to do with the way French girls dress even today. It was all about balance and classic style, not trends. Most of the look of French women are about their own style, sticking to what looks good on their body and looking effortless.

For Spring styles, keep in mind the cooler weather, rain and wearing clothes that are layered.
